10PM, perfect time for an evening snack. Kurt had skipped dinner, so he was extra hungry too. Hence the two four-story sandwiches he was happily building on the kitchen sideboard. Nobody was around, so he didn't bother with the image inducer. he was however wearing his uniform, mainly because the gloves meant he wouldn#t get fur in his food. Even without the coughing up furball jokes, Kurt didn't terribly fancy the taste of hair.

10pm. Rogue sighed smacking her head into the desk. Goddamn, this shouldn't be so hard. Math class was officially evil. She needed a break from the work load. Anything to get her mind of exponents and logarathims and whatever else this stupid homework was about.
Rogue decided a little pick me up was in order. Black coffee sounded good right then. Anything to keep her up and at 'em. She made her way down into the kitchen to see Blue Boy... er... Kurt... making a sandwich. Actually, two sandwiches.
"Hey Kurt," she said casually, making her way to the coffee pot. "That's quite the poor boy ya got there," she said, pointing to the rather huge sandwich on the counter. "Why two?"
((OOC: After careful research (wikipedia), Poor Boy is the name for a sub/hoagie/grinder/hero in the southern US)

Kurt turned to see the new girl, Rogue, walking in. Unlike some of the other kids, Kurt didn't find it so weird that she only had the code name. He thought of himself as Nightcrawler easily as much as Kurt Wagner. So he gave her a cheery smile and waved. "Hello Rogue."
It took him a moment to figure out what she meant by poor boy, vnd the confusion registered on his face until he followed the line of her finger to the sandwiches. "Oh! Uh, I was just hungry?" He replied with a touch of embarassment. Looking at the two big things, he felt kind of bad, especially since he'd just used up the pastrami.
"Do yo want one?" He offered and held out the plate with the finished sandwich to her sheepishly.

Rogue looked at the sandwich that just might topple if she touched it the wrong way due to its size. Well, she'd heard of stuff being bigger down south... apparently she had to look to Germany for the humongous stuff. Blue boy could make one mean sandwich.
"Uh, thanks. Been a long time since Ah had something like this," Rogue replied, taking the sandwich carefully with both hands. Sure smelled good. Her dinner had been light. What the heck, why not enjoy a good poor boy? She could exercise it off later worse came to worse.
"So... uh... this is good," Rogue said, after taking her first bite. This was so awkward. What was she supposed to say? What was she supposed to do? She was not used to this whole team thing...

"Thanks!" Judging by the way Kurt grinned at her, Rogue might well have just made his day. He bit into his own heartily and chewed happily before he went on. "It's the fuzzy dude special. Three different kinds of meat, two kinds of sauce, three kinds of vegetable. Everyone loves the fuzzy dude." Kurt made it sound like some sort of fast food advert, grinning all the while. Rogue being appreciative of his skills helped break the ice a lot, and made Kurt able to let out the fun side his bashfulness normally buried.
With that little spiel run through he looked at her curiously and decided to just launch intp the first thing that came to mind. "Uh, Rogue? Why do they call you that?"

Rogue let out a legitimate smile. Small, but honest. She took another bite of the sandwich to stifle any laughter that might occur. Well, it certainly tasted good. She may not be a fan of "the fuzzy dude" yet, but she was certainly a fan of his cooking. "Well, if ya ever open up a restaurant, at least you'll know what t' call it," Rogue replied, "The Fuzzy Dude has a nice ring to it."
He was quite the happy go lucky guy, wasn't he? Rogue bit into the sandwich again contemlating how anyone could be quite so happy as Blue Boy.
"Ah... Ah dunno. Ah've just always been called that. Nickname Ah guess," she lied. "So, did ya come up with Fuzzy Dude yourself or what?"

"Thanks!" Kurt was extremely pleased to have his cooking praised. Even if those sandwiches were about the only thing he could do well other than pancakes. Getting Kurt to cook was normally a recipe for a huge mess.
"It's a cool nickname." Kurt replied in between hearty munches. It really was. Rogue was definitely cool, both in terms of name and attitude. The outfit helped too. Sometimes Kurt wished he could be that cool, but he couldn't do the bad boy thing.
Kurt's nickname was much easier to explain, and he shrugged it off, even if he did like it. "I can't remember who called me it first either. But I am the fuzzy dude." He sounded proud of the name, like it was a title. Kurt might have issues with his mutvtion, but when it was used as a term of endearment by his friends, then it was just a sign that he belonged. and there was no way Kurt was objecting to that.

"Ah guess so," Rogue replied, giving a small, friendly smile. She didn't find her nickname "cool'. It was just a name, and it happened to be hers. There was no big deal about it. Then again, people with the one word names were usually pretty famous... like Cher or Madonna. Then again, they hadn't been famous since the 80s...
"Ah like yours better. Not that it would work for me, but Ah think it suits ya," Rogue said. She took another bite of the sandwich.
She chewed quietly, and swallowed. "So, uh... how long you been here? At the Institute Ah mean," Rogue asked, wondering if it was normal to take so long to get adjusted to everything. Of course, she didn't adjust easy... but that was beside the point.

Kurt actually had to stop and think about that one for a while. He hadn't been keeping track of that, especially since he did his best not to dwell on what happened before he came here. "Hmm, let's think..." He mumbled while he munched on his sandwich for one or two more bites.
Swallowing down a bite, he came to what he thought was the right answer. "Uh, two years? I think." He nodded and repeated it more confidently. "Yeah, two years for sure. I've been here for two Christmases. Christmas at the Institute is totally awesome! You have to be here for it."
Looking a little more serious, Kurt peered at the girl questioningly. "You're staying, right Rogue?" He might not know her, but she seemed nice, and Kurt definitely liked to have more people around. Especially more people his age, that wvs like having a friend and a sibling at the same time.

((Nice irony with the last line))
Rogue gave a small smile. It was kind of hard to imagine so many mutants her age smiling and being merry 'round some tree. It was like one of those really bad, cheesy specials they were always playing around Christmastime. All they needed was a reindeer. Reality? She didn't think so.
With the Brotherhood all anyone ever did was yell, herself included. One big happy family just seemed sorta... unnatural. But then again, blue boy must've liked something he saw about the X-men if he stuck around that long.
"What? Uh... yeah, sure. Not like I got anyplace else ta go. An' Lord knows Ah could use the change of scenery," Rogue replied. "Ya do like it here, right?"

"Sure! It's great here! We've got like a million channels on the TV and full fridge all the time!" Kurt made it sound like the answer was obvious and emphasized it by biting heartily into the sandwich no normal fridge could have provided for. It wasn't the whole of it, but the bit about having cool people and not being discriminated against was too dorky even for Kurt.
"It sure beats some place that's falling apart and covered in trash." Kurt couldn't resist the dig at the Brotherhood place. It was rare for him to do things like that, but for once he didn't mind expressing his dislike of the Loserhood and their unsavory ways.

Rogue managed a small smile. Sure, those were some nice perks, but that wasn't what the Southern belle had in mind when she asked. Contrary to popular belief the Brotherhood had... well, they had enough to get by. Most times. When Freddy was done bein' hungry. She did her share when she was there... but the place was pretty far gone...
"Uh, yeah, Ah guess that's true," Rogue replied, quickly looking down again and taking another bite. "Ah guess Ah meant t' ask... well... how're the people here? It just seems a little spooky for everyone t' be so friendly all the time, y'know?"
Rogue's question appeared to be directed at the floor though. Not once did she look at Kurt, for fear of... she wasn't even sure what she was afraid of. Speaking her mind just didn't come easy all the time.

Coking his head to the side, Kurt gave the girl a confused look. How could everyone being nice be a bad thing? Besides, it wasn't even true. "You haven't seen Mr. Logan first thing in the morning." The young man quipped and waves his hand like it was a worrying topic. "Don't speak too loud or move too fast before he's had his first drink. Oh man!"
Grinning cheerfully, Kurt went for something that was a little closer to a serious answer. "We're sort of like a family, that's what the Professor says. So we should be buddies and have each other's backs, right? I mean, that's what we're here for!" To hear Kurt say it, the whole thing was both obvious and easy. There might be things he held back, but on the whole he really did see the Institute that way. One big happy family of people who understood what it was like to be different. Or at least came close enough most of the time.

Rogue managed a smile. Ok, so it sounded pretty corny and highly unlikely that sticking a bunch of random strangers in a house together would yield any kind of positive product, let alone one big happy family. That's what reality TV was based on! But... a girl sure could hope. Much as she made fun of it, Rogue really did want a family... even if it was a group of rag-tag teens she was only just getting to know.
She shook her head out of her smiling reverie. "Uh, yeah, Ah guess so..." Rogue replied. The southerner hoped Kurt hadn't guessed what she was dreaming about. Lord knows Blue Boy would tease her mercilessly about her 'soft spot'. And then she'd have to go do something like punch him in the shoulder...

He wasn't always the most observant, but Kurt didn't miss the smiling pause Rogue made. By the time she snapped out of it, he was looking at her curiously over the top of his sandwich. She was okay, he guessed, but it was still pretty weird. But, she snapped out of it, and it looked like she was coming around to seeing the Institute the was he did. Which always pleased Kurt, the more people here did, the better. Especially for those of them like himself who didn't have anywhere much else to go.
So he grinned and nodded enthusiastically. "For sure! You'll see, it's great! Just don't listen to anyone if they tell you that there's an initiation or anything." Kurt pulled a little bit of a face at that. Not that he didn't appreciate pranks, he pulled them himself often enough, but some of the people around here you just couldn't trust when their sense of humor got going.
